A Long Time Coming

Genre : Romantic Comedy

Series: Cane Brothers #3

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Review:

**********SPOILER ALERT************

This is the third and final installment in the Cane Brothers series, which follows three brothers who just happened to be Real Estate Billionaires that are not looking for love, but somehow still end up finding it. Tropes included in this book are friends-to-lovers, slow-burn, and billionaire romance.

A Long Time Coming follows Lia and Breaker who have been best friends since meeting in college. These two are the definition of hot nerds, they know everything about each other and are so close they moved into apartments next to each other. However, they have been denying having any romantic feelings for each other for 10 years. Out of the blue Lia’s boyfriend proposes to her and she is rushed into this whirlwind of wedding planning with her monster mother-in-law who is forcing them to have the wedding in just five weeks. Breaker being the best friend that he is helps Lia every-step of the way during this horrifying wedding planning experience and somewhere in-between helping her plan her wedding they begin to realize their feelings for each other.

If you enjoy the friends-to-lovers trope, this book is probably for you. Meghan Quinn is excellent at writing crazy scenarios in her romantic comedies that have you laughing out loud. While reading the first half of the book I wasn’t sure if this was going to be my favorite and I thought I just wasn’t as into the friends-to-lovers trope, but the second half of this book was AMAZING! Breaker and Lia in the beginning did nothing but piss me off and then turned it all around in the second half.

When it comes to the main characters Breaker is amazing. He is such a sweet dorky lovable guy the only thing I can say against him is that he is SERIOUSLY STUPID! How do you not realize you are in love with your best friend of 10 years! He basically treated her as a girlfriend and never tried to date anyone else because he had Lia, and now that he might lose her he realizes his feelings. A friends-to-lovers trope is one thing but a best friends to the point of codependency is on a different level. Now when it comes to Lia, I don’t think there is enough words to express how annoying I found her in the beginning. Her overall quirky funny personality when she is with breaker was adorable and fun to read but when around everyone else she is horrible. Girl had no backbone whatsoever, she completely let her fiancé Brian try to change her all the time and he never stuck up for her at all with his mother and she just let it go. Then when it came to her and the wedding planning, she gave over complete control to her mother-in-law. She needed Breaker there to be able to fight for her own decisions in HER WEDDING. She didn’t even put up a fight when she got steamrolled into having a wedding in less than 2 months. Then Lia went and changed my mind and finally grew a backbone and stuck up for herself and it was hilarious! She might have pissed me off in the beginning but by the end of the book I ended up loving Lia.

Favorite Quotes:

“I think it’s because in my mind, I’ve always been with you. You’ve always been mine.”

“Breaker: And what happens when I see her, and all I want to do is reach out and kiss her? JP: Uh, remember consent is a real thing.”

“Yeah, but she has Brian, so shouldn’t there be like . . . a transition of power?” “You’re not the goddamn President of the United States.”
